Is it important for a wealthy man to date a well off woman?

I was dating a wealthy man but after he found out the small apartment inexpensive apartment I live in he stopped calling. Are most wealthy man like that? I didn't even tell him i own a large house I rent out bec i lost interest from this. Are guys shallow like that?
