How can I preserve my cut flowers?

I have beautiful flower bouquets left over from event, and would like to deliver them to some friends who've been a bit blue lately. I've already put them in the refrigerator, and there is still water in the vase. What else can I do? They are already starting to wilt a bit. I've heard that apsirin can help prolong them. Is this true?
